Things have been relatively boring… which is our case, is usually a good thing. Possibly not such a good thing when trying to entertain the lot of you with updates and glimpses into what should be an exciting life. Although, Fisher is quite exciting and we certainly can never tire of his new tricks, faces, actions and even his still shots. Hopefully it’s the same for you! Time is flying (or swimming, rather) by with our Baby Fish, and we’re just trying to slow it down, savor it and hang on to the ride in hopes we don’t miss a single second.
This weekend was a Mans weekend for sure! Fish even prefers Dad at story time. I am not even allowed on the couch with “them”. I am certain it is just a phase… right? Of course. I mean, Mom still gets to cook for him, bath him, clip nails and clean ears and do laundry, administer medicine… yippee.
Fisher was up to some funny antics! Here are two of notable mention:
He played his first DVD on Saturday. Intentionally. I was in the kitchen and he came running in to get me. He took me to the DVD player and TV. He hunted down his Baby Einstein DVD (which incidentally is the only kid DVD we own, out of a ton of our movies, so that he sought it out and found it is a big triumph.) Then he showed me that he had turned on the TV and loaded the DVD in the player (right side up, too!) and pointed and communicated to the side of the TV (meaning he knows I needed to turn a button to AV.) Once I did that and the screen popped up he started clapping (he always applauses himself, thank you very much) and ran to the couch with his blankie. He got up there, became comfy and proceeded to watch his movie “Baby Einstein; First Words.” I just stood there, mouth agape, in awe with pride at our advanced child. Then I went back to the doing the dishes and cried as I washed Sippy cups. My baby boy is growing up but I am not ready. Could cry again thinking about it.
So, part two: Fisher is all about Daddy as I have already noted. Mommy serves her purposes and of course she is loved… but the little Fish wants to hang out with Daddy and mimic Dad’s every move. On more than one occasion over the last few weeks he has shown us that he can- mimic a big boy activity- scary. Yesterday, however, we were able to catch him on film with something tangible and share with you all. If Dad pulls out the tools… it’s all over. Fisher is right there and wants to use them, too. So, Fish has a passion for our chopsticks. They are long and pointy, dare say a sharper tip than he should have, but not as sharp as what he would prefer, he hits all the outlet covers and any furnishing with screws and tries to unscrew them. Just like Daddy. What’s worse? He can. Almost. Surprising what can be done with chopsticks. At any rate, there is a heater vent cover in our tiny hallway. Somehow the one screw has been removed so that the vent sticks out a little in an upper corner (left to be precise). Fish has been working that corner for a while (hush, up!). He pretends to un-screw it (the screw is removed FYI so that he wouldn’t find it).
Well, this weekend Nate decided to fix it. Fisher was right there with him! Take a close at Fisher’s facial expressions; deep concentration- even his little tongue is out. Notice in the pictures and video, that he actually gets the screw in the hole of the vent and through the hole in the drywall. Crazy kid is good! Man, if that battery pack was not heavy he would have drilled into our wall! By the way, when Dad got the cover fully off we found 2 chop sticks (mixed matched) and 1 drumstick, belonging to Fisher’s drum set. Oh, for those who are squimish; the drill was locked and Dad was right there. Safety first. Although, I did panic when he started to run off with it (drill). And yes, guess he gave up and just attemped to remove the screw with his teeth. Or taste it. Not sure, but how barbaric. Makes Dad proud!
Tired eyes!
Becoming a Daddy sure makes you soft! Sooooooo cute. My boys.
